John Galt
Mohammad Idris is sitting next to me on bus ride to andheri station. i know his name cause i read it on a paper that he took out from his pocket. He unwinded the folds and held it in both his hands. All this while he was munching on tobacco with certain relish. He was holding the page tightly, crumpling it at its edges. He was gazing at it intently, though his eyes did not move. they were vaguely fixed somewhere on the paper. His face, was a shadow of his nonchalant resignation; which contrasted with his still resolute body. he reminded me of John Galt.
The paper in his hand was a bad photocopy (or 'xerox' to be more precise) of a paper which obviously was some kind of official paper. On it was written that the citizen of India Mr. Mohammad Idris with so and so passport no. has been appointed as Machine operator in so & so company in Mauritius. The permit is for 1 year.

its real btw.. its not as much writing as its listening.
character sketch....
why?
coz it was one cloud of sensory input that formed a bundle (quanta!) and just happen to pass through a field of conscious(?) thought/ language and bam!
definition! form! tangibility! existence!
good....good...
so many times you have mentioned Atlas Shrugged...
never could read it....
if u had read atlas shrugged, then the narration makes a lot of sense. its about a certain strength of conviction that john galt personified and that i saw reflected in this guy sitting next to me on bus. this guy, who is about to go out of india to work as a 'machine operator' is the new motor that's running the world. in atlas shrugged, john galt aims to destabilise the world (shut the motor of the world)by persuading all the 'creators' of the world.
the novel is against collective good, and advocates greed and individualism. whereas, the new john galt is exactly the opposite. they are silent soldiers too. But they are more 'organic'.
btw, ayn rand's philisophy is shit. the book is good because of the utter passion/conviction that carves its character. u don't need to read that tome. its bullshit mostly.
