How much time and effort is invested by the scientific community in reducing the clicks and key strokes of an IT worker as against reducing the loads carried, distance traveled, time spend on job by a laborer?
lolz. scientific community is no different from the IT programmer or the labourer. they do what they get paid for. they get paid for making things that make money. but yes, there are people who work on reducing the effort needed in doing the physical things. mostly to reduce the time taken to do it and to improve the quality of work and thus achieving money savings. dont you know enough examples of people being replaced by machines!? :P
